 about

Artist/Photographer/Carpenter

I attempt to express ideas about the beauty and simplicity of the Canadian landscape. Initially, much focus was spent on the agricultural aspect of my surroundings and upbringing. Sheds and outbuildings painted in traditional red, reflect the sunlight in a surreal way, unique to the prairie provinces. Minimizing detail allows shape, colour and mood to dominate the work as nostalgia evokes thoughts of an earlier time.

Trees, bushes and crops are often softened into a blurred familiar memory, while other objects are punctuated. A play on light and dark is a constant obsession.

Recent works reflect trips into the mountain parks as well as Elk Island Park which is situated near our farm. Such inspiration! Mountains, anchored to a vast geological timescale, appear to morph rapidly as the sun and clouds cast shadows over their rugged surfaces. The forests and grasslands that patiently form and reform juxtapose with the fleeting attention we attribute them. For me, simply capturing a glimpse of natures design/chaos keeps me intrigued and inspired.
